Where To Stay On Maui

We chose our home base as the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, as it was a perfect blend of elegance and family-friendly amenities. The star of the show? An expansive outdoor pool complex complete with exhilarating water slides that had our kids grinning from ear to ear. If you are looking to go to Maui with kids, I cannot recommend this place enough. It is water front as well and along the “boardwalk” so when (if) your kids are done swimming in the pool, you can easily hop over the the sandy beach or further into Whaler’s Village for some shopping and dining.

Tip: Consider booking a full ocean view room. Leave your balcony windows open at night and admire the soothing sounds of the crashing waves!

Budget tip for Ka’anapali beach stay: If you are looking to stay in the ka’anapali beach area for more than a couple days, want to be beach front, and also want to save a bit of money, I highly recommend staying at Aston at The Whaler. Here, you will still be on the beach along the boardwalk, but often at a less steep price point per night. It is more “condo” style and offers a full kitchen with you stay – another budget saving trip (eating out gets pricey!). You also still get a pool and hot tub, though it is not “resort style” like the Hyatt. Our kids’ favorite part about this location was 100% the koi fish pond ◡̈

A Scenic Drive Off the Beaten Path

While the Road to Hana is famous for good reason, we enjoyed a less traveled route along Maui’s northwestern coast. This drive offered breathtaking ocean views and rugged landscapes without the crowds or potential for motion sickness that we had experienced on Road to Hana.

Insider’s tip: Pack a picnic and make a day of it. There are plenty of scenic spots to stop and soak in the views.

Diving In with Scuba Barry

One of our trip highlights was scuba diving with the renowned Scuba Barry, who recently reopened after the Lahaina fires. As a nervous beginner, I found Barry’s patient yet thorough approach invaluable. He prioritizes safety without compromising on the excitement of exploring Maui’s underwater world.

Whether you’re getting certified, need a refresher, or just want a guided dive, Scuba Barry offers an experience you won’t forget.

More Maui Must-Dos

Below are some of my favorite experiences. If you decide that you would like to explore any of these, the link will lead you to Viator, where I have hand selected my personal favorite tours in the area ◡̈

  1. Haleakalā Sunrise: An early start rewards you with a spectacular view from Maui’s dormant volcano.
  2. Lahaina Town: This historic area is gradually reopening. Your visit can help support local businesses.
  3. Whale Watching: From December to May, witness majestic humpback whales in their natural habitat.
  4. Molokini Crater Snorkeling: Explore this crescent-shaped islet for some of the best snorkeling on the island.
  5. Old Lahaina Luau: Immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture with traditional dance, music, and cuisine.

To sum it up…

Maui offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, cultural experiences and natural wonders. From the moment you arrive to your final aloha, you’ll find yourself enchanted by the island’s beauty and warmth. So pack your bags, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready to create your own Maui memories!

Adventure on my friends,
