If you can find a movement activity that you enjoy (enter kitchen dance parties or walks in the park), you are more likely to remain consistent with incorporating it into your day, ESPECIALLY in these initial stages. The goal is to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Remember to always consult with your healthcare provider before starting a new exercise routine.
5. Manage Stress
Chronic stress can negatively impact your health and is completely counter productive. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or hobbies that bring you joy. Mindfulness practices can also help you stay present and reduce anxiety about the future.
6. Monitor Your Health
Keep track of your symptoms, medications, and any changes in your condition. Also, keep track of how you are feeling. An easy way to do this is by using a dedicated health journal where you keep track of all of these things regularly each day. Bring these notes to your next visit with your provider to discuss. It is immensely helpful for your clinicians to have this window into your life that they would not otherwise have and can help you and your doctor make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
7. Set Realistic Goals
Setting achievable goals can give you a sense of direction and accomplishment. Start with small, manageable steps and gradually increase your efforts. And don’t forget to celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem! This positive reinforcement can keep you motivated.
